Why September 11th?
September 11, 2016 | Grizzle_Bear

We all remember September 11th as the day the Twin Towers fell. But you may have noticed the other Islamic terror attacks have been on this same date. The French railway bombing, as well as the Benghazi attack. I think there are more that I can't remember right now. The 11th of September is a very important date to Islam. It was on September 11th of 1683 that the Ottomans were defeated at the Battle of Vienna. (For the second time, first time in 1529.) This was as far as Islam ever reached into Europe, and they are still PO'ed about it. If you would like to know more about this event, there is a very good movie on YouTube about it, and several documentaries as well. (Since I am sure the movie takes liberties with the truth, as all movies do.) Try this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChdGe2YxVmA or just go to YouTube and search for "Battle of Vienna" or "Siege of Vienna."

(My first post, hope I got everything right!)

When nothing changes in a society over the generations memories of victories past and of shameful defeats last a lo-o-o-ong time. The standout events are so few that they become the subject of stories and exultation and recrimination for centuries, even millennia.

I don’t know if there’s an Islamic tie-in, but September 11 is also New Year’s Day in Ethiopia.

I get a newsletter called American Minute by Bill Federer. Today the newsletter was about this very thing.

SEPTEMBER 11, 1565
In 1565, Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent dominated the Mediterranean, with intentions of not only invading Sicily, Sardinia, Majorca, and southern Spain, but Rome itself.

SEPTEMBER 11, 1683
Another major event happened. Sultan Mehmed IV sent over 138,000 Muslim Ottoman Turks to surround Vienna, Austria, led by General Mustafa Pasha. For two months they starved the 11,000 Hapsburg-Austrian defenders.

SEPTEMBER 11, 1697
Muslim Ottoman Turks dominated Belgrade, Serbia, since 1521.

SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
Islamic terrorists hijacked passenger jets.

And of course Benghazi, September 11, 2012.

To think that I was just going to post about this!!! Welcome to FR, hope you find it worthwhile to continue to participate!

The final (so far) attack on Christian Europe by the exclusivist Islamic Caliphate of the Ottomans, capped a 1,000+ years of expansionist Islam (610 - 1683). While there were ebbs and flows, Islam had more territory under the flag of Mohammed than any other polity; half of Africa, Middle East through the Balkans, the Tartar Steppes and south to through Mughal India and the Indonesian Archipelago! While under no single ruler for that entire span, it had a common desire to continue its expansion.

The Ottomans, conquering successors to the previous Caliphates, had eaten away at the Byzantine Empire until they conquered Constantinople in 1451. Even then they were deep into the Balkans and digging hard at the Gates of Vienna! Much of the Mediterranean was at the mercy of the Ottoman Navy and Islamic pirates were troublesome all of the way up the European Atlantic coast. They had no problem playing the power politics of the day and easily became military allies of various European kingdoms, but it was always a waiting game for them to pounce on weakness.

The first Ottoman attack on the Hapsburg happened 88 years after the Fall of Constantinople, in 1529, when Suleiman (the Magnificent), taking advantage of his relatively easy conquest of Hungary, laid siege to Vienna in September thru October. Insufficient siege artillery, bad logistics and tired troops kept the Ottomans from winning before the winter made them withdraw.

Before they could return, Roman Catholic Europe scored a devastating victory over the Ottoman Navy at the Battle of Lepanto (off western Greece) in 1571. The New World wealth of Spain enabled it to finance the galley fleet that destroyed the previously dominant Ottomans. An interesting thought to note here is that the Spanish Armada came just 17 years later with a much unhappier outcome for Spain.

From the death of Suleiman in 1566, the Ottoman Empire had great difficulties both foreign and domestic. Their fellow Islamists in the East, the Safavids of Persia, were now strong enough (end of Mongol incursions) to take some of its eastern territory. Also, the Ottomans, who previously controlled the lucrative East-West trade routes, now found themselves outflanked by European sea routes and thus, the loss of much revenue! The Russian Tzars had grown strong enough to conquer the Tartars and push into the Black Sea areas while the Poles also pushed south. Internally, a series of weak Sultans led to leadership being exercised by ‘Grand Viziers’ in the sultan’s name.

It was the Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa Pasha, building upon a series of military successes in the Balkans, Mediterranean and central Europe, who launched the 1683 attack of Vienna. Given the devastation and expense of the recent Thirty Years War (1618-48) in the Gemanies, the Ottomans probably thought that their chances were as good as they could get. They had further assurances from their French ally that they would stay neutral even though the Pope called for a Christian Crusade against the Ottomans.

Although the Ottomans besieged plague-ravaged Vienna from July to September, 1683, and successfully undermined several places in its walls, they could not mount a good attack before a relief army arrived. Led by Poland’s great general and King, Jan III Sobieski, (Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth), it had some of the finest heavy calvary of the time, the Polish “Winged Hussars”. While still outnumbered by the total Ottoman strength, the cohesion and power of the Christian forces proved to be potent against the less united Ottomans.

333 years ago, these forces BROKE the Islamic ambition to break through Vienna and continue their millennia-old conquest of Christian Europe. On that day of 09/11/1683, in 3 hours they devastated a 30% larger army and seized its main camp. The Ottoman forces retreated back into their somewhat secure areas in the Balkans and gave treaties against future attacks. From the 1700s on, the Ottomans were a diminishing power, soon to become the “Weak Old Man of Europe!”

Sept. 11th, 3 B.C. is the calculated date of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’s birth.
Not a coincidence it would seem.
