I taught my kids to read using Blumenfeld’s Alphaphonics. His method for teaching the alphabet (also in Alphaphonics) is superior. I paid $25 for it in the 90s and I believe it’s still around that price. One of the best investments I’ve ever made. Their teachers didn’t like them learning to read and spell phonetically, but phonics is key.
