A travel tip at the end of the magazine's latest cover story advised London visitors about going to neighborhoods with large populations of "Indians, Pakistanis and black people." The warning set off a storm of protest and prompted a British lawmaker to demand an apology from China's flag carrier.
"London is generally a safe place to travel, however precautions are needed when entering areas mainly populated by Indians, Pakistanis and black people," said the passage, which was spotted by a CNBC journalist. "We advise tourists not to go out alone at night, and females always to be accompanied by another person when traveling."
The warning appeared in the September issue of the airline's "Wings

Is China in the basket of deplorables?
Only common sense.
Am I correct in recalling that several years back, one of the major companies supplying map information for travelers had a high-crime overlay, and that they were brow-beaten into pulling it?
China doesn’t care about political correctness.
Go Google how they treat muslims...
I believe it was a smartphone GPS app that would let you avoid high crime areas, and it got pulled because the results were “racist!”
Facebook should make an AI tourism “Chatbot” to help Chinese people
I am an old, bald white guy. I pulled into a Pakistani run convenience store in another state for gas. It was obviously not a great neighborhood. A sign on the pump, which was not equipped for credit cards read, “All pumpers must pay first.” I went into the store and I could see the clerk was busy but he asked what I wanted. I wafted my wallet in the air and said, “pre-pay for gas.” He frowned, pursed his lips, waved me off and said, “that’s only for black people.”
It took a moment to recover from that one. Wow. Okay, it’s a bad neighborhood. But he obviously had no clue how much trouble he could get into by saying that.
“London is generally a safe place to travel, however precautions are needed when entering areas mainly populated by Indians, Pakistanis and black people,”
Nothing untrue here. Facts are racist.
Strangely, those are the same precautions I take when I go “Up the Smoke”.
Sound advice from Air China.
Is this bad advice?
I generally follow that advice even here at home...as do most people. Even Jesse Jackson!
They said it wrong. The correct statement is: “Chinese guests in London should respect the culture and customs of London’s black population and should avoid intrusions into their closely held neighborhoods.”
Perfect!
I am so used to pre-paying across most of the South-West, that I sometimes have to do a double take in Wisconsin outside of the cities.
I go in to prepay, and the clerk looks at me with puzzled confusion. What? Have you already pumped the gas?
Then I realize I back in a culture where crime is exceptionally low, and Christian ethics dominate.
I love Arizona, but I miss the Wisconsin rural culture at times.
LOL! I love weasel wording. Well done. Racist coding in the warning implied but not stated. Similar to slick willie knowing what “Make America Great Again” means down south to angry old white guys right?
Sounds like sound advise. Many muzzies are deplorable racists.
Here you go.
App’s web site is gone.
Does the magazine have an entry for Chicago?
Strange. I have been applying that advice to myself for the last 68 years! Be aware of your surroundings! BE VERY AWARE!
