Am I correct in recalling that several years back, one of the major companies supplying map information for travelers had a high-crime overlay, and that they were brow-beaten into pulling it?
I believe it was a smartphone GPS app that would let you avoid high crime areas, and it got pulled because the results were “racist!”

If you follow the book Route 66, the Mother Road,
It states you need to get off the route and bypass East Saint Louis.
