Warning... (OPAQUE MELODIES THAT WOULD BUG MOST PEOPLE)

As a lifelong musician who has always been into stuff that's a little out of the ordinary I thought I'd post this wonderful instrumental from Frank Zappa from the album "Chunga's Revenge" released in Oct 1970. Great album from my extensive collection. One of my many favs from FZ.

Enjoy... Or don't it's completely up to you.

You’re welcome but it actually went to the wrong thread...

I got distracted for a few minutes, came back to the computer and couldn’t find my post in this thread...it was the wrong thread, what I posted was there, but in the right thread, I looked at the wrong one and thought for some reason the post never made it...so I found most of what I posted already, posted it again here, then found out I was looking in the wrong place...

I feel like an idiot...never intended to post here in the first place, what I had in mind didn’t fit here. Other than a comment that I like Zappa too...been listening to him since around 1975.

Thanks for posting that link

I saw FZ twice. Once at a New years eve show at Poly Pavillion at UCLA in Los Angeles. He had the awesome Stevie Vie as second guitar that night.

The other time was in my home town of Claremont Ca. during his Bongo Fury tour with capt Beefheart.

Way back when I was young.... Great, great memories.

Oh, I see...

No loss for us. Thanks anyway.

I was a Tull fan back in the early 70s

Me too, a guy in our band brought Aqualung to the band room in 1970 I think it was, I was a fan before the first song was over. Loved them ever since.

I’ve seen Tull 3 times, Houston around 1988 or so, Under Wraps tour, San Antonio a few weeks after Roots to Branches was released, in an old opera house, the very best sound of any concert I’ve ever seen, and St Louis a couple of years later after Ian’s leg healed up.

In San Antonio, Ian was wheeled out onto the stage in a wheelchair. We thought it was a prop, nothing Ian Anderson does will ever surprise me. The very best showman ever. So after 3 songs my brother and I noticed his left leg had never moved at all, we were talking, sure something was wrong. So he stopped between songs and said “I hope you like the latest in designer stage gear” or something ot that effect, and said that he had taken a fall onstage in Lima, Peru 2 weeks earlier and hurt his left knee, and his doctor said he had to learn to love his new wheelchair. He fiddled with the wheels or brakes a couple of seconds, looked around and said

I hate the fucking thing”

And off they went into the next song. Halfway through the show they did the song from Aqualung with a choral section and flute solo, he was doing a fabulous flute solo by himself, suddenly let out a OOOOF and the lights went out, when they came back on the band started into a Martin Barre instrumental, no Ian in sight.

He had hurt that leg, came back after the instrumental as if nothing happened, but we could tell he had taken some more pain killers...still a fantastic show.

The next one, 2 years later in St Louis, was just as good, but he didn’t move around as much as he did before the fall onstage, his knee was still giving him trouble, but he was back on his feet.

He pulled a good trick that time too. They played Hunting Girl, I think from Songs from the Wood. It has a stop in the middle and a phone rang. I had been wondering, a phone was sitting on top of the keyboards. He picked up a cell phone...

Hello? Well, I’m in the middle of a concert...Yes, the woman in the front row, with the glasses next to the gentleman? Yes?

He threw the phone to someone in the front row...

It’s for you, it’s your husband...

And they picked up as if they had never stopped...

Always a great show, my favorite concerts ever. Always the best sound too, when other bands are often too loud, bad mix, often you can’t hear vocals, Tull is always excellent sound, Ian can snap his fingers into the mic and you hear it.

OK I better stop before I go look up more Tull videos...

I always enjoyed him. My favorite concert was his Carnival (?) concert, he came on stage as Captain Beefheart. It was a great mind f… .
Few know he also wrote classical and jazz.
