Tom Cooper August 28, 2016 TweetShareShare Printer-friendly version Its been 50 years since one of biggest and most hyped operational achievements by Mossad, the Israeli foreign intelligence service. On Aug. 16, 1966, Operation Diamond resulted in what is usually described as the defection to Israel of an Iraqi air force MiG-21-pilot, Capt. Munir Redfa.
Redfa took his MiG with him.
Theres been no end to the rumors surrounding this affair, and especially regarding Redfas reasons for defection. According to official Israeli version of the story, Redfa was an Assyrian Christian who suffered from religious and ethnic discrimination, had been passed over for promotion and was forced by his commanders to live far away from his family in Baghdad.

Back when stuff was no joke.
A monkey model, undoubtedly.
Export variants of Soviet military equipment were versions of Soviet military equipment (armored vehicles, airplanes, missiles) of significantly inferior capability to the original designs and intended only for export
Monkey-model weaponry was used mainly by non-communist Soviet allies, such as Egypt, Iraq and Syria. Eastern Bloc states generally used fully capable versions of Soviet weaponry, although poorer states often used earlier generations of weapons.

Very interesting, I had never heard of that, but it does make sense
The capturing of Eichmann was Mossad’s finest feat IMHO.
Astonishing planning and operation.
.
And they loaned it to the USA, as I understand it. Who then proceeded to “lose” it. Pretty amazing feat for a foreign fighter jet as long or longer than a house. I’m guessing they crashed it.
So, again, as I’ve read, we gave a different Mig-21 back to Israel.
Made into a movie.
The elimination of the muslim terrorists who murdered Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics is also a very notable feat.
Entebbe.
L’Chaim, to life!
For us we call that the Foreign Military Sales export version. All our sales are sold with “FMS Security Deletions.”
No big deal.
Every buyer knows this.
“Threat Simulator” is all you need to know about what happened to it.
Sure. After the Israelis did the same with Danny (forgot his last name) being the first to fly it.
Still, we could have been kind enough to return it for their museum.
After we got our own. . .we kept with Israeli agreement (they did not have the airspace nor the technology to exploit intel of the platform). They were there during testing and had access.
No we gave them a different one, I believe. Or so I have been led to believe.
Still, they put it on display.
But I cannot prove that it’s not the same.
Nonetheless, I guess it was Ran Ronin who was flying in the 2-bird formation (Mirages) when Mati Hahn (sp) came on the radio and told him why he was flying into Jordan.
Not going into detail, but there are “many stories in the naked city” that will never be told.
Oh, I’m sure. Can’t be told.
Still, I was glad when “Firefox” at least mentioned The Aggressor Squadron. And they had a KGB character named “Andropov”, LOL.
Verrrry surprised.
The way I heard the story years ago the pilot was JEWISH.
When first told the a/c would go to Israel, he refused.
Then it was the USA, and he consented to the plan.
There was also some money involved.
LOL. . .
One of the soldiers who was on the raid at Entebbe is speaking at my University in September. Looking forward to hearing his story.
Well, hey, you know, those Mach 5 MiG-31’s!!!!!
