acuminate [uh KYOO muh nuht (adj)][uh KYOO muh nate (verb)]

hear it pronounced

adjective, verb

The noun means "keen perception" or "discernment" or "shrewdness," especially in matters of business. As an adjective it means "pointed" and applies to anything that tapers to a fine point. As a transitive verb, it means "to sharpen"; as an intransitive verb "to taper" i.e. "to come to a point."

So we have a word with many usages but sharpened meaning. Have at it class.
