Optics (scopes) used in the movie 13 hours
Posted on 08/19/2016 4:41:32 AM PDT by bill1952
Hello.
Nowhere better to ask this than on freerepublic
After watching 13 hours (good movie) and noting that the weapons seemed to be accurate and handled correctly, which is rarely the case in Hollywood, I was intrigued by the usage of those infrared scopes and how they were also used as signaling devices.
What model/type scopes were those/ I would like to fit up with one of those on a pictanny rail Thanks!

Wow that was fast!
I notice that they have more than one model.
Can you identify it?

Before you go buy an EOTech, don’t fail to consider the Trijicon ACOG, which our people also use. Travis McGee did a very good comparison write up some time ago, I’ll see if I can find it.

Good glass is expensive, no doubt.

In addition to an EOTech, I have a old Trijicon ACOG TA01, and several specialized Leupold glass.

Thanks for the link.
These old eyes and iron sights don’t “mesh” as well as they used to. Glass helps a lot.

I figured EOTech before even looking it up because they make some great scopes. I have a buddy that is hardcore into weapons and he uses EOTech scopes on just about everything.

You can very easily spend more $$$ on optics than you did on the basic rifle.

Pretty bad when the scope costs almost as much as the weapon...even half is bad but they are nice scopes and definitely worth if they save your life in battle.

The security forces there used AN/PVS-15 NVGs which have an IR bulb but are not used for designation. Several weapons had PEQ-15s which do have IR designators and those were used to point out specific targets. IIRC no thermals were used. EOTech was the optic of choice for small arms (M4s) but the SAW's had ACOGs. The DMR had what looked like a Leupold or possibly a Burris 3-15x50 scope with no lo-light capability.

Before springing for one you should do a web search for "Eotech Scandal".
It ain't pretty and if you still trust them and feel that they deserve your money...well...

What Eagle 6 said.
Also, there are knock offs out there. If the price seems to good think three times.
