Absolutely they are. And non-athletes. We prescribe opioid painkillers like candy and the are shocked to find out people get hooked before the scrip runs out.
I don’t know, the Jury is still out.
When I was 18 I had a bad motorcycle accident and had major road rash that required almost 2 sq feet of Skin Grafting. This was in 1978. I was given a prescription for ALL THE PERCODAN I could eat for 3 months before the surgery. YES I became addicted, but after the surgery I went through withdrawls in the hospital, it was terrible and swore to Never ever go through it again. As a result I don’t take pain pills until it is absolutely necessary and Yes I have a bottle of Vicodin in my truck.
FYI
Percodan was before Oxycodone
Oxycodone was before Oxycontin. The only difference is what it is cut with
Aspirin,Codein,Acetominiphen.
This is very true. My son spent 2 months in jail, 4 months on house arrest and 2 years probation to prove it. He said he didn’t think he would become addicted, he just wanted some relief from a back injury. He said the addiction happened almost immediately. The drug suppresses your will and no matter how much you want to be free from the drug you can’t do it yourself. Sounds weird, but he was very thankful for having to go to jail and all that they required of him. It was what he needed to get clean. He said no one could pay him to take back the helplessness you feel. I was fortunate that in the fact that I didn’t know any of it until he was in jail. We told him he had one shot to get clean where we would help him, after that he would be on his own except for a visit once a week in jail. It has been over 2 years that he has been clean. We’re all very proud of him!
Pain killers almost ruined Brett Favre’s career. He was so addicted to them that he couldn’t poop for days.
There is this thing called personal responsibility.....
After knee surgery, I spent three days eating pain killers....
Day four was the day I quit because I could feel it getting a grip on me...
I sucked it up took over the counter pain killers. ( I did take about twice the recommended dosage for a few days)
A week after surgery I was getting to the point I could take normal dosages...
By two weeks out, I didn’t need anything...
“...I am not convinced”
Same here.
Opioid abuse is just the latest ‘boogie-man’ created by the government to control the aging masses that live their lives in constant pain.
A rapidly growing elderly population needs relief from pain in order to function, even at the lowest level of physical activity throughout the day.
The “War on Drugs” is total bull-crap and a waste of Billions of taxpayer dollars.
If they were serious about keeping heroin out of our country we would not have made a deal with the Taliban to not firebomb their poppy fields. We would build a wall to keep Mexican black tar heroin, liquid meth, etc. from entering the United States. We would stop arming the drug cartels.
War on Drugs, my a$$. It’s all about money & power.
Nope.
