Thieves in Rio are targeting visitors to the Olympic Games with some robbers as young as 15 staging tourist holdups, MailOnline has learned. Rio's Tourist Police Station it is packed with families arriving to report they have just become a victim of crime. MailOnline found some in tears, others looking visibly shaken, as they told of their terrifying experience of Rio's dark side - and how their long-awaited Olympics holiday had suddenly turned into a nightmare. It follows reports that a Team GB athlete was robbed on Monday night and controversy over claims by US swimmers that they were held up at gunpoint.

This may just be a misunderstanding. After all, Brazil has some of the world’s most stringent gun control laws.
Why Brazil is still a third-world country.

You know it’s bad when they have to set up a special police unit just for tourists. Those officers would do more good with a street appearance so there wouldn’t be so many robberies to begin with.
They’re posturing over the Olympians who got robbed by gunpoint claiming their stories didn’t match as if they were lying. The athletes are back on US soil and the Brazilian cops are ordering them to stay in Brazil. Egg on Brazil’s face and upset their lawless country got outted.

It is an act of reckless self indulgence to go to Haiti, Argentina, Brazil, etc.
Nothing good can come from it other than bragging rights.
Need to see a tropical rainforest? try Hawaii.
Need to see naked women in festival mode? New Orleans.
I’m not trying to be a jerk, but wasn’t this well publicized before people went there?
It amazes me that persons get themselves into the damnedest spots which could have been easily avoided. We had an ice storm here a few years ago and it was on TV for a day before it actually started and people were stranded on the highway for a day without food or water.
You could not get me to the Rio Olympics unless I was kidnapped and drugged.
Rio is a unique place.
The Favelas are 3rd or 4th world areas on their own, both physically and politically.
We didn't get to seen enough of them, in my opinion; fascinating places...
