Dogs my breeding and nature love us. People that do not like dogs can not be trusted.
All my dogs have been rescue dogs. They crave to be taken home and loved. They will return that love and defend you to the death.
My last rescue dog El Leo (The Lion) came into my home and escaped the next day due to my bad fence, replaced soon after. He ran around the neighborhood for about an hour and was waiting on my front porch to come in. He looked at me and said with his eyes and smile, “hell no I am not leaving, life is good here.”
When I am sad Leo and Marisol, my other rescue dog, know. They come up and lick me and try to comfort me. When I let them in the house and sit on the couch I am covered with 160 pounds of love.
If someone was a real threat to me or my wife these gentle loving dogs would be hell on earth for the bad guy. Dogs sense and feel fear and bad intentions.
They are gentle but protective. When a stranger comes they go into protect mode, not aggressive but mind the perimeter as “you will not cross.” Once I say it is okay or shake the strangers hand, they know all is well and run up to the stranger demanding affection.
The UPS man was friends with my dog. When he came my dog would jump up into the open cab to be petted. One day it was a different UPS man and I went out to find a terrified man with 80 pounds of love in his delivery van. My dog was upset and whining and confused, but not aggressive. Once I went out and showed that all was okay everything was good. The dog got petted by the new delivery man.
I wish people were more like dogs!

All of my dogs were rescued by me. Right now I have 5. Greatest guys you’ll ever meet.
Must be her territorial nature manifesting...her dislike of other dogs comes honestly!
Great post!!!!! I completely agree on the don’t trust a person who doesn’t like dogs. I am sitting on the couch next to our dog we adopted a few weeks ago from the shelter. She is heartworm positive & will start treatment in a month or so. She is a dream girl!
My heart breaks for abused & homeless animals.
Many large dogs I have run into did not even need to be introduced, They run right up to me right away. And this includes so-called vicious breeds. In fact the so called vicious breeds sometimes try to drown me with slobber.
Just now read your post. We have one breeder dog and one rescue. I completely agree with your rescue comments. Once we had a trainer at the house. When he was leaving he said, “If there is ever an intruder, your breeder dog will bark and maybe bite. The rescue will kill for you.”
