The police and Professor Jain are still going to be disappointed because Apple has had a built-in requirement for inputting the user's passcode after not using the device for 48 hours. Now its only six hours of non-access or longer and the passcode is required. However, given the length of time it has taken since the man was killed, and the length of time they imply it will take for testing, either one of those delays will be far too long for the fingerprint unlocking to work. They will STILL need the dead owner's passcode or his AppleID to unlock it.

Michigan Police are having a professor build 3D fingerprints to attempt to unlock a murdered man's iPhone. Too bad it won't work because they have forgotten that if an iPhone is not accessed for 48 hours, or it has been shut down or reset, the only way to unlock it is to input the owner's passcode or AppleID. Fingerprint TouchID will not work. The latest version of iOS is now requiring passcode for inactivity after six hours. There is no way this iPhone will be unlocked even if non-living 3D copies of finger prints could do such a thing (they've been tried before and failed.) PING! Anyone who puts anything on their computer or phone or whatever they don’t want the government to see are stupid.
