End-to-end encryption vexing to some officials . Facebook says it has begun to offer users the option of securing their messages with end-to-end encryption, a service that soon may allow more than a billion account holders — potentially including jihad and other terror groups — to message one another below the radar of law enforcement surveillance.

...

By implementing end-to-end encryption, Facebook aims to give its users a way of communicating over the network’s proprietary Messenger application in a manner intended to make correspondence undecipherable to anyone other than the sender and recipient, a possibility that alarms law enforcement officials.

...

More recently, the Brazilian government recently froze about $6 million in funds belonging to Facebook after the company failed to assist authorities intent on deciphering communications related to an international narcotics investigation sent over WhatsApp.

If you trust fb not to decrypt all of these. They are basically getting their users to self-identify the interesting conversations for them. SMH...

Hahaha! I read the title of the thread as, “Secret Conservative.” Imagine the look on my face when I clicked the link. I’m still chuckling at that!

Terrorists don’t need to be concerned about talking on Facebook.

FB has their back.

It’s us that they want. And they aren’t responding to the call for encrypted messages on Facebook - they are responding to the fact that Conservatives and patriots are leaving en masse.

So they are trying to lure us back.

The encryption doesn’t mean shit.

I had to join Facebook to have postings from a neighborhood watch-information group.

The regular site has its benefits for people who like to see other people's cute kids and puppies and all that. But trust them with encrypted messages? That's insane. The concept is the polar opposite of privacy.

So, the message is created on FB, encrypted by FB, transmitted by FB, decrypted by FB, and finally read by another FB user, who is to know that the message is actually secure? Why would anyone trust FB?

Your neighborhood watch group might want to try this site instead:

https://nextdoor.com

Probably not run by conservatives, but not proven to be a privacy-sucking leftie site like FB yet.

You get a secret decoder cardboard cutout to fit your scree. Just like a real spy would to decode message sent you.

And maybe, just maybe as an extra bonus if you vote for Thunder Thighs, a secret decoder ring and fake email server to put in your secure closet
