Reagan's son: My dad 'likely' wouldn't support Trump

Michael Reagan — the son of former president and Republican icon Ronald Reagan — said he would not be voting for Donald Trump during California's GOP primary on Tuesday. And his late father probably wouldn't, either.

“I will not be Voting for Trump tomorrow in the Calif.Primary,” Reagan tweeted Monday at Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.

Two things:

1. Michael Reagan may not have voted for Trump in the CA primary yesterday --- though that was stupid, since all other candidates have already given up -- but I certainly hope at least he will shut up about Trump and vote for him in the general election against Hillary.

2. He cannot realistically have any idea about whether or not Ronald Reagan would vote for Trump or not, if he were alive today.

Michael Reagan is making himself irrelevant.

He must already be irrelevant. I didn't know he was still around.

So Michael, are you saying your Dad would support Hillary?

Ronald Reagan was a Republican through and through. I think he would have supported whoever the Republican nominee is.

What a freaking moron; what do these GOPe think is a solution? Hitlery?

I don’t get it. I guess the 1% gravy train is somehow threatened. I would be happier if these and their ilk were sent away to Switzerland and stay.

If his father were still alive and in charge we would not have gotten to this place.

... he didn’t listen to his dad when he was alive ...

I think that was Ron Jr. Michael may have been all too concerned about what his father thought and anxious to please him.

We can certainly disagree with Michael Reagan's opinion, but he does have his reasons.

Some background:

Trump has come under fire for openly mocking the now-deceased Nancy Reagan, the wife of Ronald and step-mother of Michael and mother of Ron, in a 2004 interview during which he said she was “never very beautiful.”

Trump has also been criticized for his past comments about the late president, whom he attacked in full-page ads in various newspapers in 1987.

Every conservative aspect that his dad espoused, this idiot rejected even when RR was alive. It’s the OTHER Reagan son who is clearly the sane one.

I think Reagan would support the nominee. But I don’t speak for him and his son shouldn’t either.

CA is not going to be in play anyway.

Since Reagan loved the country and the people of it and Hillary promises to give the country to fraudulently documented foreigners, I don’t think his son knows what he’s talking about.
Only the insane and people who hate the USA won’t be voting for Trump.

Michael Reagan was a conservative talk radio host, at least he was until recently. You're thinking of the flaming liberal Ronnie Jr.

Reagan wouldn't support Hillary and wouldn't publicly back a Democrat, but the rumor is that he didn't vote for Gerald Ford, so what he might do in the voting both is harder to say.

In the primary, maybe not. He would have campaigned for him in the general.

Perhaps, but only because when Reagan was around, we had real conservatives, and he could not have imagined the Republican Party we have today.
