I saw the PBS "D-Day " special last night,
The first wave of Americans knew they were the suicide attack platoon
and suffered 91% casualties during the invasion, mostly due to German 'crossing fields of fire' of machine guns and heavy artillery.
A truly remarkable story of survival which had but only one command :" Get Off The Beaches" !
