Just had FOX News on the past hour or so. They cannot get enough of the adulation for Muhammed Ali.
I'm not creating the thread to debate the pros or cons of that position.
Just want to observe: they're playing clip after clip of Ali boasting of his power and skill and abilities. And the media is saying what a wonderful fellow he was.
Seems to me there is a parallel today in another arena.
Socialism = State control of means of production
Fascism = State controls private ownership of production
Remember the Chrysler deal at the beginning of this regime?
Very good. I hadn’t thought of that.
Noticed also.
The same thought occurred to me today. Trump is brash and a braggart, but so was Ali. Yet Donald Trump is mocked and criticized for doing basically the same thing Ali is admired for.
Ali beat and bloodied people for a living, and for reasons beyond my understanding is celebrated for that. But Donald Trump is condemned when violence breaks out outside of his rallies, even though his hands touched no one.
Welcome to Double Standard Land!
And he was a draft dodger....
Won't fight for his country...but will bash someone's brains out....for a price.
If Trump were black he’d be considered the 2nd Coming.....
oh wait, we already have the Obamessiah.....
well maybe the 3rd Coming......
US Government: "If you won't kill 'em, we won't let you beat 'em up."
-- George Carlin
He’d fight for Allah, just not for America.......
I didn’t want to point out the similarities.
Trump is not Muslim.
Clay single-handedly introduced running and dancing to boxing. Great if you were a dance fan or a track and field fan. Not so great if you were a boxing fan. It’s led to the ludicrous situation we see today, where someone like Floyd Mayweather, who absolutely will not fight in the ring, is hailed as the greatest pound-for-pound boxer of all time.
Oh, and tell me where Trump is doing anything similar.
When Ali had a functioning brain, he was an anti American muslim and a racist. He became lovable when he went vegie.
Agree ..... DDD = dead draft dodger !
I always rooted for Joe Frazier and George Foreman.
Both are/were the best at what they did.
I am purposefully not watching Fox right now for the same reason. You can only watch so much forced adulation.
A draft dodger. Is that so. What unit did Mr. Trump serve in during Vietnam. I’ll take it neither of you are Trump men.
Trump got at least four deferments. He never served, and obviously never wanted to.
Ali had the guts to say “i’m not serving” even though he more than likely couldn’t have gotten a deferment given his celebrity status. Trump hid behind innumerous deferments.
Please explain to me the difference and which one is a draft dodger?
Not content to to leave the dead rest, he then turns to Jack Nicklaus, whose tournament is being played, and asks, "Jack, you knew Ali, what do you think?"
Then he turns to (sir)Nick Faldo, and asks for his observations.
The sad fact is that Cassius turned his back on Jesus Christ to embrace Islam, and is, most likely suffering eternal flames in hell.
