***SCHADENFREUDE*** when I found out later today that the boat was with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation!
Violating restricted zones - with schoolchildren.
Thankfully all were safe, when local boaters helped save them. Wonder what the school will do for the future? Probably status quo, as apparently they feel the need to continue PC indoctrination on The Environment(TM).
I think I found the cause...
Arrrrrrrrgh, Matey, you done good.
The students from Kent School in Chestertown, Maryland, were on an annual science trip, said the school’s admissions director, Tricia Cammerzell.
Baker told The Associated Press at the foundation’s Annapolis headquarters that the boat’s captain, Shawn Ridgely, is Coast Guard certified and has a “stellar reputation,” with an unblemished record during 10 years of foundation trips.

He’s lucky the boat just sank, instead of getting blown up.
LOL! It's the same thing I scream at the TV when a stupid reporter says, "Investigators are looking for a reason why the plane crashed."
"Ummm think hard you bimbo! I think it was gravity that did it!"
Well, they were near an old bombing site. They should consider themselves lucky that whatever they hit did not blow up.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Yipes! Those areas are carefully marked on the charts, so one would hope that the captain was avoiding them.
Could have been a submerged log. I have seen some huge ones in the Bay.
“Shockley, who has been accused of harvesting undersized oysters, credited other watermen with helping him with the rescue. He said watermen have gotten a bad rap, and jokingly referred to himself as a “pirate.””
