One-armed surfer Bethany Hamilton of the US yesterday sealed third place in the Fiji Women’s Pro after beating some of the world’s best to make the semi-finals.
Hamilton, whose left arm was bitten off in a shark attack in 2003, entered the event at Tavarua, Fiji, as a wild-card rated as having little chance of making an impact.
However, the 26-year-old from Hawaii reached the final four with an incredible giant-killing run.

The way I heard it, it was actually during her training for the running portion and it was a land shark.
She's not on the "global warming did this" speaking tour?

I have dated a disabled athlete. Thes are Type A achiever mindsets who will have no part of any kind of pity party.
Pro? Pro wrestler, bowler, race car driver ...? I think something got left out.

Pro surfer. They made a movie about her a few years back called “Soul Surfer”. She is an incredible inspiration. I got to surf with her in Indonesia back in 2007 not long after she lost her arm.
She is a living testimony to the human spirit, animated by the Holy Spirit.

she should be disqualified. The handle on her surfboard, so she can “roll turtle” under an on coming breaking wave, gives her a unique advantage. /sarc
