It was the president of PANAM that talked Boeing into building it. At first it was going to be a combi; passengers on the second deck and cargo below.
"Hey, what kind of deal are you trying to pull here?!"
"I can see you drive a hard bargain. Tell you what. I'll throw in the engines, an electronics package, and pin stripes for... Well you tell me. How much do you want to pay per month?"
"I can't pay more than $350, max!"
"Let me talk to my manager."
OR you could flip one wing over and and make a play yard with a swing for the kids!
Paint it yellow and use it for a submarine!
This unit may be a bit more than you want to spend at this time.
Check out the discounted Airbus, that was up the thread.
Come back on payday!
And don't forget, WE BUY, WE SELL AND WE TRADE!!!!
Bunch of converted homes, etc. here:

Actually, the tail portion lends itself quite nicely to that! LOL!
Its a shame that these plans are simply too upside down to refurbish, and they have few economically feasible routes today. The four engines are very expensive to operate/ maintain and just not as fuel-efficient. Still a fabulous feat of engineering, though.
...
Some of them continue on as freighters, but it looks like they gutted this one and will make more money on the parts. A lot of used 747-400’s will be on the market. Some airlines like Qantas are replacing them with 787-9’s. Not quite as much capacity but much more economical.
Yes a great deal at $300,00 seeing as how each engine is worth $1 million and there’s four of them. :-)
The ebay listing says:
“The engines are already removed and the plane is ready to be prepped for shipment”
Does it actually include the engines?
Without engines, how will will the new owner taxi around the neighborhood?
Putting cards in the spokes to simulate the sound, simply will not do!
OH NO!
They parked outside at Midway airport?
Let me guess, it’s sitting on cinder blocks?
Well if they are selling it without the engines $300,000 sounds a little steep.
While I wouldn’t own the plane, for those unfamiliar with Cosmic Muffin, a boat made from Howard Hughes’ old plane, a 747 hull would make a dandy basis for a really big houseboat.
Cosmic Muffin?
Photo in reply #17!
Yep. Now imagine a 747 ... no, a 747 catamaran!
You can run the air conditioning and electronics from the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU), which is a small jet turbine engine.
John Travolta has his old Boeing 707 in his front yard.
Read about that a while back. Seems he lives in a development for plane owners. Pretty cool to have your planes right outside your door!
