The Mercedes-Benz Superdome will be lit up in blue starting Sunday (May 15) evening to honor New Orleans Police officers who died in the line of duty and thank current officers in service.

The NOPD said the recognition coincides with National Police Week. The New Orleans stadium's blue glow will last until Thursday evening.

From March 26, 1856 to July 17, 2015, more than 112 officers have died in the line of duty, the department said. NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison expressed his gratitude to the Superdome for honoring the fallen officers "and recognizing the officers who are taking that risk right now every day."

The BLM movement has not been able to make any inroads down here. Even most of the local blacks can't stand the BLM types.

After Katrina, something like 1/4 of the PD didn’t show up for service:

A LOT of experts think they were “ghost officers” —that they existed only on paper, and then “their” pay was pocketed by others.

They (the ones that actually existed) also went around illegally confiscating the legally owned firearms of law-abiding people.

They should have a yellow night, too, to honor the ones that quit, looted, abandoned during Katrina. Over 40% of the force by the few records we're allowed to see... PLENTY of small town officers all over the USA now who "served NOLA gallantly during Katrina..."

Anyone still think police will not take your guns if ordered to do so?

Some people just can’t help themselves. Even a nice gesture like this is slammed here. Unreal.

The old lady was slammed to the floor by a state trooper from either Illinois or New Jersey. It seems the out of state cops were really keen on confiscating weapons here.

They won't here. After it all came to light as to what was going on the state house and senate fast tracked a bill that forbid law enforcement agencies from confiscating weapons during a state of emergency in Louisiana and Governor Blanco signed it.

We can thank the NRA for this bill.

I was down here when all this was going on. We just voted out Sheriff Jack Strain of St. Tammany Parish and he is mentioned by name in this short video. Good riddance.
