As a blockbuster feature film, it had everything — beautiful women, heroic men, high drama on the high seas and scheming Nazis. Only the Nazis in this particular picture were behind the camera. Sadly for them, however, their grandiose attempt to humiliate wartime Britain over our worst maritime tragedy turned into one of the most epic cinematic disasters of all time. In summer 1940, as Hitler visited occupied Paris and considered how to deal with Britain, German screenwriter Harald Bratt went to see Joseph Goebbels in his Berlin office. He had a script for a film that immediately appealed to the Nazi propaganda chief.

Not surprising since Nazism was fundamentally rooted in the Marxist didactic.
But the Nazis usually portrayed the Capitalists as primarily being Jews.
They always accused “Jewish Finance” of starting the war.
According to this article, that was not the case in this movie.
And, of course, as we see even today, the ranks of academia are rank with anti-Semitic Marxists.

Found it on youtube. Spooky to watch since the Nazis released it in 1943 when the war was already going badly for them.
IIRC, in the Nazi flick, conniving Jews were to blame for steering the Titanic headlong into an ice field just to set a record passage.
Wait a sec - White Star line rep Bruce Ismay ordered the captain to do just that, & for the same reason. Ismay survived, Captain Smith did not.
In the 1997 film, the heroes were American, the victims were Irish or Italian, and the villains were British.

Near the end of the war he produced a film “Kolberg” about the defense of the town against Napoleon, which according to Goebbels, paralleled the state Germany was in at the time:

Kolberg entered production in 1943, and was made in Agfacolor with high production values. At a cost of more than eight million marks, it was the most expensive German film of the World War II, with the actual cost suppressed to avoid public reaction.[2] At a time when the war was turning against Germany, thousands of soldiers were used in the film.[3]
Principal cinematography took place from 22 October 1943 to August 1944. The exteriors were shot in Kolberg and environs, Königsberg, Berlin and environs, Seeburg[disambiguation needed], and Neustettin.[4]
To film scenes with snow during summer, 100 railway wagons brought salt to the set in Pomerania. The film was finally completed at the Babelsberg Studios at Potsdam while the town and nearby Berlin were being steadily bombed by the Allies. Two extras were killed during the making of the film when an explosive charge went off too early.
The film’s extra cast was a massive 187,000 people out of whom about 50,000 were soldiers. The film has the second highest cast strength after Gandhi (1982).

I must add, if Heaven Forbid, this happened in 2016, in an age of dictated GENDER EQUALITY, there would also be no shouting of “WOMEN FIRST.”

funny I watch the German film.made during World War II about Baron Munchausen... what really struck me is there’s a scene where he supposedly in the Turkey and there were hundreds of black extras in it
When did Nazi Germany come up with hundreds of black extras?
Probably Ethiopia when Mussolini was still occupying it.
It shows up on TCM from time to time. It is also available on line and from several DVD sellers. Well worth the watching for TITANIC buffs. Just overlook the bits of Nazi propaganda.
