Vanity - Red cars and glorious sounds

Yeah, OK, it's a gasoline commercial, but the video is in HD and the sound is spine-tingling. Turn it up.

I listen to this local radio show done by a former dealer. This time of year he always hypes this car show over in Farmer's Branch, I've never been until yesterday. Sam Pack owns several Ford dealerships and a mighty car collection, housed in a museum only open to the public one day a year. Saw some beautiful stuff, and some historic cars that make my head spin. Real GT-40s and Shelby Cobras and a ton of other cool old iron.

The guy with the radio show has a website, CarProShow.com, where he does reviews and posts oddball automotive items. He put up this 2 minute commercial showing Ferrari race cars from across the ages running free around several venues. I've always been tifosi but I quit watching F1 after Senna was killed. To watch this video with my stereo on volume 50 drives my wife nuts, but it gives me goosebumps. I love the sound of those race cars, they sound like wild animals on full gallup.

This vid being only 2 minutes just wet my appetite, so I pulled an old favorite down off the shelf, Grand Prix and popped the top on a Stone Ruination to enhance the thrill. Have not seen that film in a while, parts of it do the sounds of old race cards true justice.

Having visited Manhattan many times, and Rome,Hong Kong and Rio more than once I'm wondering if this was all CGI or did a Ferrari really careen around the streets of each city?

Nice! Screamers! Love the last location Monte Carlo. Thats a ridiculous place for a Grand Prix race - but they manage!

It sure looks real. Don’t know how they pulled that off, but I like the woman in the restaurant in China when the car goes by.

Many years ago my father helped me make a car for the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby (little gravity-powered models) that looked just like the first car in this ad. It's "exhaust" was part of a white coat hanger. I think he did more of the actual work than I did.

He himself used to race midgets waaay back in the 40s.

This is not him, but you get the idea.

Wow that was an era when “safety equipment” was a misnomer.

Safety equipment is for wusses.

I took almost that many chances on a Ford 8N farm tractor when I was twelve years old. And they could achieve a top speed of about 25 mph (with the Sherman Step-Up transmission).

Nothing like a load of hay bales pushing you downhill on a road covered with loose gravel. Just steer through....

So many of the stud drivers of that era were killed or maimed as “go fast” technology outpaced safety technology.

It’s kind of depressing to read the history.

Eventually they had “razorback” ridges that came up to head level as roll protection. Other than that, it was helmets and safety harnesses.
