Why would so many people run for president?
Can someone explain the lists of Presidential Form 2 Filers? I note that the complete list of presidential candidates that filed in the 2012 election cycle numbered 416. In 2016, the number filing to date is 1,720. And this year's list has 6 months to go.
I give up, what's going on? Is there a tax scam I'm not aware of? Or is this some delusional phenomenon brought on by the proliferation of the iPhone, selfie-snapping, narcissists?

Conversely, there must be more than that number of Americans more qualified to be president than Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina or Bernie Sanders.
Nobody told you that you could grow up to be (p)resident? So sad. LOL!
Many are probably delusional. Some do it for publicity. I know someone who self-published a self-help book, parts of which were a bit creepy. He got on the 2012 ballot. His party was the name of his book. He got a big write up in his local paper.
Vanity. I have met several people who claim to be running for President this year besides “the 17.” Some are mentally ill, some are publicity seekers. Some of them can honestly say that they are as qualified as some of the 17 anointed ones.
