On Tuesday, Dallas lost a hamburger legend. Jack Keller, who spent over half a century selling burgers at Keller's Hamburgers, died at the age of 88.
"My dad was the smartest, coolest man I ever met," Jack Keller, Jr. told NewsFix. "He was my hero. Dad always wanted to give a consistently very good product, at a very good price. He loved being a hamburger man."
"He was good to me," said Vicky Cobb, who's worked at Keller's for the last 35 years. "I have nothing bad to say about him. It's a sad day for all of us."
Keller's Hamburgers celebrated 50 years on Northwest Highway last year.
"Kids whose parents brought them here when they were kids, now they're bringing their kids here," said long-time customer Jimmy Click. "So, it's two or three generations."
"You talk about a Dallas icon," added customer Joe Longest, "Keller's is it."
Yeah, an old-school vibe, low prices, and great food have made the joint a Dallas staple, and a fitting legacy for the man who ran the place for over five decades.
OMGosh....I grew up eating Keller’s Hamburgers. Actually....my favorite was their Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich! Yummmmm....I can taste it right now. We would all go out on the weekend to party and then we would stop at Kellers and munch out because all of the good clubs were on Northwest Highway...and you could drive through and get six packs of beer too! RIP Mr Keller....good times

Grew up in Lake Highlands and used to go to Keller’s. My Dad loved it.
Last year I realized my kids had never been, so I took them when we were in Dallas visiting my mom.

Often went there as a teen in HS in the ‘50s. Great food and good place to meet girls from other parts of town.
Married wife #2 in ‘70 at a downtown JP’s office and our first stop afterward was Keller’s for lunch and a couple of brews, before heading for a theater to watch “Tora,Tora,Tora”. Drove 45 miles back to our apt., after a big dinner at a Chinese restaurant.
I know... too much detail. Keller’s just brought back a lot of memories.
Wow, that brings back memories. I grew up in Dallas during the 60’s and 70’s.
I remember eating at the Southern Kitchen after ice skating and roller skating at the pavilion in Love Field they used to have.
And of course, the Cattleman’s has been there forever.
My wife and I lived in the Village Apartments while I was working for SMU back in the early seventies. Kellers was just a hop, skip, and jump on Northwest Highway near us. It was one of our favorite eating places back then.
Last month the wife and I went to Dallas to check out the upcoming state TRP Convention site. Afterward we cruised around the old neighborhood and stopped by for lunch at Kellers. It was great to see the place was still standing pretty much as we remembered it. It still served the same good hamburgers and fries we used to crave. It brought back many fond memories from that era. Unfortunately time does not stand still for any man. RIP Mr. Keller, you did good.
Spent many hours at Keller’s over the years. I amazed me that some of the waitresses could carry 4 cases of beer out to cars and limos that pulled up.
I used to go skating at LOVE too.
I used to go there between 74-77. Went to Woodrow Wilson High and joined the Navy in 77.

Middle-aged carhops like "Two-Tone Momma", who wore T-shirts saying "Sex Is Like Snow. You never know how many inches you're going to get."
(Two-Tone Momma also carried a knife...and took no $hit from the customers).
I’ve eaten at Keller’s for well over 50 years... not so much now as I am quite removed from their location(s). They are great!

How many inches of snow do they ever get in Dallas? I’ve seen football games where they had some on the ground, but not much.
If I'm not mistaken, the record single day's snowfall in Dallas was 9 inches.
And it came in April...
