It appears the U.S. Army was attempting to transport three of the armored vehicles to the Hohenfels Military Base in Germany when the Humvees were inadvertently dropped several hundred feet to the ground, where they crashed into a million pieces.

Oh, well. What were Obama and Merkel planning to do with them? Probably use them against the folks who object to Muslim rapists.

Typical military FUBARs happen. There’s not much they can do about it at the time it happened, no?
Whoever packed those pallets needs to worry, but not those watching.
One positive thing, no one was hurt. Another could be, they’ll find out what went wrong so it doesn’t happen (that way) again. However, do note that military operations and even training can be dangerous. Folks tend to use humor to lighten the mental load, so to speak.

Those HUMMVs got “airmailed”. When a slingload starts oscillating, an inexperienced pilot will fight it instead of flowing with it, until it gets worse & worse and he/she has no choice but to punch it off.
Out west a BLM agent wanted to relocate a troublesome grizzly bear so he tranked it & had it slung in cargo netting under a helicopter. The pilot picked it up & started flying to the new location but - you guessed it - the load started swinging wildly & he “airmailed” that bear from 1500 feet.
The BLM agent was immediately nicknamed “Splat”, as in “Hey, Splat!” “How’s it going, Splat?” He soon retired.
Not that unusual for a heavy drop. My battalion lost a few vehicles in a similar manner but never so many on a single operation. The riggers will have a lot to answer for. Don’t know if the guys laughing were part of the drop zone safety team or whetherthey were Air Force STS guys or just some troopers hanging out but they’ll probably regret posting the video.
Looks like the Malfunction Officer will get some work out of this.
Hohenfels.. I sure used to hate humpin up that hill from the train to the caserne.
My son, who is a Marine, would not be surprised. The different branches of our military view each other with a little disdain.
