That was their image yeah but their best singles were terrific. Songs like Rio and ‘Hungry Like the Wolf’ may be bubble gum but they still sound pretty great.

For all those responding to this thread along the lines of "What's a Duran Duran" and "Never heard of them" - you might think you are being cute but I doubt that the members of the band really care whether or not some anonymous internet people claim to not know who they are.

Like them or not, Duran Duran is a popular band that scored 16 top 40 hits in the USA (and even more in England) during the 1980s and 1990s. There is no way that anybody worldly and intelligent enough to post to this forum can possibly not know of them. Not saying you have to like them but it is disingenuous to come here and claim not to know them.

That said, of course, I think they (and other recording acts doing the same) are being silly by boycotting North Carolina over some stupid bathroom law that may or may not permit men dressed as women to enter the women's rest room.

Nobody cares about the boycotts and the only people that suffer by them are the people that make a living on concert events like this and the die-hard fans who truly like the music.

Recording acts that wear their politics on their sleeves always annoy me. Especially when they take up with causes that they feel is gaining them "cred" with their fan base.

Now this cuts both ways. In this very thread we hear about how Charlie Daniels may or may not preach conservative values at his concerts. And perhaps Ted Nugent and a handful of others do the same. In order to be consistent, I should also respectfully ask them to just "shut up and play."

I appreciate that Charlie Daniels and I may share political beliefs but I'm not paying $60 (and up) a ticket to hear him preach about politics. I'm paying to hear "Devil Went Down To Georgia" and other fiddling playing. The most political I care to get at a Charlie Daniels concert is hearing Charlie rip through "Uneasy Rider" or "South's Gonna Do It Again" and whatnot.

I go to work every day and I don't go around preaching politics to my co-workers and subordinates. I keep that to myself when I'm in the workplace and that should go for entertainers as well.
