WITH no shops, cars, restaurants or kiosks selling snacks, Aoshima is not the ideal hotspot for tourists. But cat lovers are not complaining. Aoshima Island is one of about a dozen 'cat islands' around Japan - small places where there are significantly more feline residents than people.

Seems odd but nature would take its course and once they would run out of food the population would decline. What’s feeding all these felines? (besides the residents and tourists?)

I thought about catching some and grilling them but did not know if the locals would approve. Also I did not know how hard they were to catch but they seemed pretty tame.

It’s getting very close to rat snake season. I go out every year and round some up at Tamagawa and Nogawa. They make great pets.
