Good question. Lee Harvey Oswald, James Earl Ray, among others.
I think it must be in the AP style book for news organizations to use killers middle names.

It is more precise, eliminating say, James William Jones as a MLK suspect.
But I have often thought (creepy) the same, and gratefully I have no middle name.
