Justices will hear Samsung-Apple patent dispute

The Associated Press — The Supreme Court has agreed to referee a pricy patent dispute between Samsung and Apple.

The justices said Monday they will review a $399 million judgment against South Korea-based Samsung for illegally copying patented aspects of the look of Apple's iPhone.

Apple, based in Cupertino, California, and Samsung are the top two manufacturers of increasingly ubiquitous smartphones.

The two companies have been embroiled in patent fights for years.

The justices will decide whether a court can order Samsung to pay Apple every penny it made from the phones at issue, even though the disputed features are a tiny part of the product.

The federal appeals court in Washington that hears patent cases ruled for Apple.

None of the earlier-generation Galaxy and other Samsung phones involved in the lawsuit remains on the market, Samsung said.

I will admit to being slightly amazed that this is going all the way to the Supreme Court. Although the lower court ruling does seem a bit exaggerated. *All* profits? SMH...

Samsung is a huge bunch of douchenozzles. Every Samsung product that I have ever purchased has come back to bite me.

Our Samsung Refrigerator has a design flaw that causes the defrost heater to stop working, leading to ice build up that eventually breaks a fan on the unit. Had it repaired once, and it failed again within a year. now I am unable to find a local repairman because they’ve all stopped working on Samsung refrigerators due to lack of parts and support. Am stuck with manual monthly defrost cycles or repair it myself. I called Samsung, and they referred me to some national repair company that has the worst ratings I have ever seen. The Samsung support guy literally barked the name of the company at me and hung up.

Two Samsung smartphones, owned by each of my sons, both mysteriously failed within a few weeks of each other, and just a month or two out of warranty. Quick check online shows this is a known issue with these phones, but Samsung failed to do anything about it.

You can bet if Apple had a product with a fatal design flaw causing them all to fail a few months after the warranty expired, they would do something about it. But not the Samsung douche nozzles.

Sorry for the rant. I really hate Samsung.
