It’s funny how there are so many guitar heroes.
It’s all Hendrix/Beck/Clapton/VanHalen but no one really gives the drummers or bass players their due.
Without them, there is no rhythm to hold the song together.
Just a bunch of guys noodling endless fancy riffs.
Unsung heroes.

Sounds like you prefer the drum machine, as many in the modern era do.
But all the great drummers lead a little, fall back, slow down, speed up...within the context of the music.
A CLASSIC example of that is Jon Bonham on Whole Lotta Love or How Many More Times.
IMO, you can't have rock without that swing.
But Bonham didn't have the technical capability of Ulrich. Nor did Moon.
Granted, Ginger Baker was a technical tie for first place but didn't have the "swing" Ulrich does. Or Bonham (who had the best swing of any drummer ever).
Wow, I have a new appreciation of Neil Peart.
He never did anything as technically complex, or with as much swing while he played with Rush. And I'm wondering why...
I almost fell asleep by 2.25. I hate solos.
