Greenville Police Department officer Allen Jacobs was shot and killed Friday in the line of duty.
“We lose, we hurt, we ache,” Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller said. “No one wants to lose their officers.”
Jacobs was pursuing on foot a “known gang member” in the Nicholtown community near downtown and was shot multiple times as he rounded the corner of a house before he died Friday afternoon, Miller said.
The suspect in the shooting took his own life while being surrounded by police officers near the Swamp Rabbit Trail, Miller said.

Officer Allen Jacobs, 28, was a father of two young boys with a baby girl due in July.
He was also a decorated Iraq Veteran. Police describe him as dedicated and worked on gang activity.

Authorities also revealed Mackey was arrested in March 2015 for strong arm robbery. He was convicted and sentenced to 10-years suspended for 251 days time served.
