My little cat Kefira has been very sick for the past few days. She is losing muscle mass, developed a pot belly, and barely eats anything for the past couple of days. She spends her days just laying Sphynx like on the floor, upright like the Sphynx. She is drinking lots of water. Blood tests show normal except for an extremely elevated white count. This points to a likely lymphoma. Vet had extra blood tests done to identify any cells in blood.
I am taking her back to the vet to discuss results of cell blood test.
Chemotherapy is not very effective in cats. It usually only buys a few months.
If the vet tells me it's lymphoma, would you just have her put the cat down and not put her through anything else?
Did she get feline leukemia shots and booster at an early age?
genuinely sorry. my daughters lost kittens a few weeks ago to predators. this is very difficult. i hope you feel a community of real sympathy here at FR.
[It could be excess stomach acid or constipation.]
It could be worms.
Very sorry to hear this... I have no answers to offer up, other than prayers for strength for you in the coming days. God bless...
Maybe a bowel obstruction or hairball?
Maybe the vet could check with x-ray or sonogram?
I’m so sorry.
I recently lost an outside cat due to liver problems. We tried to save him for a couple of months. If I had it to do over I wouldn’t put him through it. He had a really good life as long as he was with me and I’m glad for that.
you have FRmail
prayer kitty ping
My heart goes out to you. My dog was diagnosed with cancer last month and we had to put her down a week later. Her quality of life was going down very quickly and she was showing signs of suffering.
We had lots of doggie treats, hugs, pictures and park time. So sorry you are going through this. I feel your sadness. It will get better.
Ah.. or pancreatitis... my dog came down with that a couple years ago and after a couple weeks of antibiotics, she was fine.
I don’t pretend to know or understand anything but I found this when i did a search on pot belly cat

I just lost my kitty of 18 years to cancer, I was taking him to the vet to have him put to sleep he died on the way, I should NEVER have put him the car!! Still feeling guilty over having him die scared to death of that damn car ride!!! God Bless you it will be hard but best way to help with the grief is to get a new kitten right away!!! It really helps to have a kitty that NEEDS your love and care!!!!
My poor little Misty (Yorkie Terrier) was sick so I took her to the vet. They took 2 x-rays and blood test. The stress of the x-rays caused her to have a heart attack as they were giving her back to me. They grabbed her rushed her back and revived her. They put her in an oxygen chamber and after a day she would stress every time they tried to lower the oxygen. I finally made the decision to have them put her down.
That is something that is so hard to do and to get over, but there really was no hope for her.
I will pray for you to be comforted if you decide to make that decision.
[Ah.. or pancreatitis]
The cat could have eaten a ground squirrel for that matter, and it’s taking some time to digest.
I am so sorry. You may not want to hear this, but when they reach this stage, it is more humane to let them go than to prolong the suffering. Your kitty will always love you. They know things. They just can’t talk.
Awww, so sorry. I can understand why you are sad. I’m sure your vet will help with your decision, but only you can make the final call. Thoughts and hugs to you and your beloved friend.
Oh, my. I am so very sorry. What a painful dilemma for you. Prayers for some resolution that makes sense, ultimately.
The worst part about pet kitties is the fact they last a fraction of our lives.
I have no idea what will do when it is Zippy's time. He's SUCH a loving cat. NEVER has he once clawed or bit, and he is one of the few cats who wants me to rub his belly. He has the same little routine every night: When he sees I am planning to go to bed, he jumps up, gets 5-10 minutes of petting and headrubs, then curls up right next to my head. I am planning to be a wreck for a year or so, when Zippy needs to leave me. I lost Cathy in 2013, and wrote about it here. It is worth readong. All my cats have been street strays and ferals so the only thing I can remember is that they had more love, more comfort than ANYTHING they might have had without being my buddy. They got well loved.
