Characterizing Interglacial Periods over the Past 800,000 Years
EOS ^ | 3/2/16 | Cody Sullivan

Global climate patterns have undergone a remarkable shift in the past 600,000 to 1.2 million years. Before the transition, glacial cycles, consisting of cold ice ages and milder interludes, typically lasted about 40,000 years—but those weaker cycles gave way to longer-lasting icy eras with cycles lasting roughly 100,000 years. In between the cold ice ages are periods of thawing and warming known as interglacial periods, during which sea levels rise and ice retreats. Here Past Interglacials Working Group of PAGES identifies and compares interglacial periods over the past 800,000 years, including our current era.

Glacial periods give way to interglacials on some occasions when the Northern Hemisphere’s summer solar insolation (the amount of solar radiation received by Earth’s surface) increases alongside corresponding decreases in ice volume and increases in temperature and atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2). Although the end of an interglacial period is a slow process requiring the sequential reversal of these conditions, the onset of an interglacial period can be relatively fast. Within the glacial periods, there are secondary fluctuations. These are known as interstadial and stadial periods, which occur when glaciers retreat and advance, respectively.

The authors predict that this current interglacial period won’t give way to a glacial period for another 50,000 years or so. The only way the current interglacial could end earlier is if CO2 levels were reduced to well below preindustrial levels

There is a definite upside to at least a "little" global warming. Can you imagine what the ice age we seem to have been heading into for the last 2,000 years would do to a human population at current numbers and spread? An extinction event for numerous species likely including ourselves.

When the next Ice Age begins, the people will ask:

“Who were those idiots back in 2016 who thought getting warm was a bad idea?”

Ha...might not have too long to wait

Lack of sunspots starting around 2025 /2030 plunges world into new ice age.

Bow hunting polar bears is a survival requirement.

Those mentioned above will be found frozen...hanging from electricity free lampposts.

CO2 levels aren't going to affect when the next glacial period begins one way or the other.

Blue eyes and high IQs made it through the last Ice Age, why wouldn’t we make it this time, too?

Agree. By 2019 we are not going to recognize our planet. By 2030 we will pray everyday for global warming.

So why are the dims, progressives, socialists and fellow travelers gung ho for Global Warming and choking off electrical energy....?

My theory is based on Bill Ayres pronouncement to and FBI informant.....

In No Place to Hide, Grathwohl explains that the Weathermen actually believed that they would be successful in overthrowing the U.S. government and that, with the help of the Cubans, Chinese, Russians, and North Vietnamese, they would occupy America.

Americans would have to be "re-educated" in camps, similar to what the communists did in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and other countries they had taken over.

Here is one of the chilling revelations Larry Grathwohl made in the film:

I asked, "Well what is going to happen to those people we can't reeducate, that are diehard capitalists?" And the reply was that they'd have to be eliminated.

And when I pursued this further, they estimated they would have to eliminate 25 million people in these reeducation centers.

And when I say "eliminate," I mean "kill."

Twenty-five million people.

(and why did they call the organization the Weathermen..?)

When it is cooler on this planet, living things die off.

When it is warmer on this planet, living things thrive.

I have tried and tried to get this through the heads of Hysterion associates of mine, without luck. They are lemmings, marching off a cliff. Man = Bad, Anything Man Does = Bad. Each lemming has his head up the rear of the one on front and cannot see the truth for the rat turds.

The thing is that CO2 levels interact with a multitude of other factors, many of which are not understood and often not known for some time periods. For instance, we know that during the late Ordovician, CO2 levels exceeded 3000ppm but due to 4% less solar output, glaciation occurred at that level of CO2. There is no general theory of climate and many hypothesis being presented oversimplify. However, there is no doubt that CO2 is a greenhouse gas as is methane, water, etc. Currently our 400 ppm CO2 seems close to the lowest levels however, just 3 million years ago, the level was as low as 365 ppm but Artic temperatures were 16C higher and global temperatures were 4C higher than now.

A little more detailed graphic - note the Carboniferous with massive CO2 adsorption.

There are only two honest and non-corrupt state governments on this planet right now. They both have officially warned and are preparing their populations for global copling. And you won’t believe who they are.

For your reference.

John Casey has a new website up.

Veritence Corporation

An interesting YouTube channel (from another Freeper):

Adapt 2030

There are others if you are interested.

Finally, The "Weather" group may be insidious, however they are too stupid to see what is happening. Watch some of the videos from Adapt 2030. Globally, there is going to be massive pain, starvation and death.

If I may add, CO2 levels are always lagging indicators and not leading.

I have repeatedly played games with true believers. I give them a cold and a warm beer. I shake both and then ask which can they want to open towards their face. Not all have been clueless.
