What Is The Oldest Thing You Own?
A Freeper | 2/15/2016 | jy8z

I saw this question posed by a fellow FReeper in answer to another Freeper today. I thought it would make for an interesting topic. I do not remember who it was so I can't attribute it to them.

A large clam fossil. Not sure how old, but beautiful.

Can you post a few photos of it? Maybe we can figure out what it is and how old.

1897 Columbia Tandem Bicycle. It was made with 5% nickel alloy steel tubes. This was the finest and thinnest tubing available in that time period. The entire tandem bicycle with its original wooden rims weighs 40 pounds which is light for a tandem bicycle even by today’s standards.

More like 6,000. Dates back to the
seed promised to the fallen Adam
and his wife. The promise renewed
to the Patriarchs. Look up a the
stars A______. So shalt thy seed be.

That is the plan of salvation. Salvation actually came to humanity in the person of Christ.

I have an 1858 flying eagle also, it is one of my favorites on my meager coin collection. I’m partial to peace dollars though.

That's fantastic, where did you find it?

Bought from a dealer in NYC via Internet, not sure if he's still in business. I suppose I should have made up a more exciting story!

I finally gave most of my collection to my son. I love old books, even the most mundane. I was never really selective either, old did it, didn’t matter the subject matter. I collected a lot of US History and Geography, World History, the early romances of the 1800’s.

Probably my Great, Great, Grandfather’s walking cane that he brought over from Luxembourg, about 1860.

Antique buffet from England, about that same period.

A 400 pound gold nug.

I’d call it a nugget, but it looks so much bigger.

Actually I found something even older while perusing some old bookshelves. It is a massive two-volume set called "People's Cyclopedia of Universal Knowledge" and published in 1879.

Pretty awesome, the entire world's knowledge at that time summed up in two volumes. There is no listing for "computer." There's an extensive article on national debts and lists all the debts of the European nations which totaled $20,585,096,000 with Great Britain and France leading the pack with about $4 billion in debt each.

As for the United States, our national debt was around $2,027,414,325 (just over $2 billion). This was down from $2.85 billion in 1865, just after the Civil War.

So Abraham was not saved? He believed in a Savior and his faith was credited to him as righteousness. Caleb’s and Joshua’s making it to the promised land while the others over 20, their bodies fell in the wilderness. A picture of the remnant that believed. Caleb and Joshua are in glory. The priests at the tabernacle preached a sufficient sacrifice every time they sacrificed an animal. God told Elijah that He preserved 7,000 that would did not bow a knee to Baal. The Old Testament saints were saved by their faith in the Promised Seed. God’s progressive revelation ensured that.
