(NEWSER) â A 69-year-old Spanish man was fined this week after officials discovered he hadn't shown up to work for at least six years, the Guardian reports. Ironically, the civil servant was discovered only when the deputy mayor attempted to give him an award for 20 years of "loyal and dedicated" service in 2010. âI thought, where is this man?" the Guardianquotes the deputy mayor. "Is he still there? Has he retired? Has he died?â

Was he a government worker????
Well, I just saw he a was a civil service worker, so he was...LOL
At the Dept of Veterans’ Affairs employees and medics routinely skip work, leave early, and play computer games.
He was simply emulating his great hero, Barrrrack 0bama. I bet he was playing golf.
When I first saw that headline my first reaction was that it had to be a bureaucrat or a member of Congress in DC. How many of you thought the same thing?
I read they were looking for him to give him and award of some sort. Probably perfect attendance.
Does he answer to “Joe Biden”?
I was at a company that had a guy who had taken a job with the company across the street.
He would run back and forth. If people wanted him he was “in a meeting”. He got away with it for about a year.
Even our government requires reviews and interviews occasionally the employees.
It is possible elsewhere to maybe state you are being transferred up north and have payroll still pay you no matter where you go. At least until...
NO doubt his Union rep will come to his defense. And don’t even think about pro-rating his pension.
I was walking past a window of the court house and an employee was playing solitaire on his computer...... A family member works at the Dept. of Veteran's Affairs in a leadership position....he says there is zero incentive for the employees to perform their jobs well, most don't , he said, and know that they can't be fired so they do the least they have to.
To this family members credit he saved the Government (taxpayers) Millions by exposing corruption and testifying to such.
Well done. Clicked thread looking for the Office Space reference.
He may have been such an obnoxious ass that others were glad he was not there.
He could have been their local Bernie Sanders.
“Was he a government worker????”
No. He was a “civil servant”
Beat me to it!
Isn’t that the same thing?
He must have had a real essential job....NOT
