'Deadpool' Kills It With Historic $135M Box Office Weekend, Colossal $150M Holiday
Hollywood Reporter ^ | February 14, 2016 | Pamela McClintock

In a sea change for Hollywood’s go-to genre — comic book adaptations — the very R-rated and irreverent Deadpool grossed a record-breaking $135 million over the three-day Valentine’s Day/Presidents Day weekend, one of the best showings of all time for a superhero movie and shattering all expectations.

For the four-day holiday weekend, Deadpool is estimating a colossal $150 million, a Presidents Day best that beats the $93 million grossed a year ago by sensation Fifty Shades of Grey (official four-day estimates will be released Monday morning, so it’s possible the final number could come in higher). Among other records broken, Deadpool boasts the biggest R-rated opening of all time, the biggest opening for the month of February and the top opening in history for Fox. It’s also the biggest debut for a first-time feature director (Tim Miller).

People can't get enough of comic book movies. I never heard of "Deadpool" until this movies came out. I wonder how many parents allowed their boys to watch this R rated movie.

I did go, and I was aghast at the number of kids there. It was a very hard R rated movie. Yeah, it was funny, but I must be getting prudish, because there were some unnecessary blatantly gratuitous scenes in there, and I felt like I had to take a shower afterwards.

I saw the trailer when I went to see “13 Hours”. Totally disgusting. Even the trailer was obscene, IMHO. Another retard movie. I’ll be passing on this one.

The two men in the family went this afternoon. Hubby thought the trailer was hilarious. I like a good action but that was a bit much for me.

Good gratuitous fun. Shocked at how many kids were there. Very shocked

This proves that the traditional summer blockbuster is dead. Any weekend is now open territory.

If my memory is right “300” really showed Hollywood this. “Batman V. Superman” is opening March 25.

Kids were watching "Porky's" on HBO over 30 years ago.

Kids can handle more than we give them credit for.

Saw it this weekend...I am not an X men or superhero movie guy but went with my Little Brother (Big brothers Big sisters) who is 20. His pick so I obliged. Wasn’t overwhelmed but wasn’t disappointed. Funny, edgy, hardcore...7 out of 10 for me.
Now I watched Sicario on Demand. Whoa...this is a Drug Cartel meets secret enforcement movie and it’s intense. Real true life stuff...9 out of 10.

Actually, the movie was kinda cleaned up from what it should've been. If you know Deadpool, he is extremely irreverent and very sexually/etc inappropriate. Funny, yes, but not a kiddie movie.

“Kids were watching’Porky’s on HBO over 30 years ago.”

They grew up with such a distorted view about sex that anything goes now. Yeah, kids can “handle” a lot. Doesn’t mean it is not damaging. Damages adults, too.

The fact that Americans, including the politically conservative, flock to go see the most filthy debauchery, and pay good money for it, is one of the reasons this nation is doomed.

This nation is going to be destroyed. Neither Cruz, nor Trump, nor any other politician or judicial appointment is going to change that. The only question is who is going to be left around to rebuild.

My brother, my friends, and I watched "Porky's" on HBO over 30 years ago when we were kids.

I'm a retired Army officer, my brother is a CPA and intel analyst, my other friend is a millionaire business owner.

This silly "Tipper Gore" argument that kids are being hopelessly corrupted by movies and TV is so dumb... I wish it would just go away.

It makes us Conservatives look like idiots when we make arguments like this.

The church ladies were saying the same stupid stuff about Elvis in the 50s.

Yes, and Elvis is boring now.

It takes a bigger and bigger dose of titillation to satisfy...and the Overton window of acceptable discourse, and acceptable behaviour, has grown immeasurably worse.

Oh puhleeze.

This silly crap makes it SO easy for Liberals to make fun of us.

Nobody would ever take anybody seriously that would say something like that.

People's "weirdo alarm" goes off when they hear people on our side say stuff like that.

It's OK for a "kid" to see Deadpool. A kid being 11 or 12 and older. I wouldn't take a 4 year old to see it. But I'm pretty sure there weren't any 4 year olds in the theater.
