Suit Filed Challenging Move to Require Voter Proof Of Citizenship In 3 States

A lawsuit was filed Friday afternoon challenging the surprise move by the head of a federal elections agency to require proof of citizenship to register to vote in three states. The suit alleges that Brian Newby -- the executive director of the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission (EAC) who unilaterally approved the change to the federal form -- acted outside of his authority and departed from several commission protocols in making the change.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia by the League of Women Voters, Project Vote, the Georgia State Conference of the NAACP and others. It is asking for preliminary injunction that voids the recently-added proof-of-citizenship requirement on the federal registration forms for Kansas, Georgia and Alabama.

"The timing of the Executive Director's decision jeopardizes the integrity of several upcoming federal elections," the suit says, noting Kansas' caucus and Alabama's primary next month.

Newby's decision to change the federal voting registration forms in Kansas, Georgia and Alabama to require proof of citizenship late last month was seen as an unexpected reversal from previous decisions by the EAC that rejected requests for the change.

The suit accuses Newby of breaking at least five different commission policies in pushing the change, including acting out of the scope of his authority and posting the change without a public comments period.

I think there should be a box on all identification for future records that if marked says, “Natural born citizen”.

The proof of citizenship is a great idea as we in TN see NC plates hauling vans full of blacks to our election library just off I-40.

Our Secretary of State, Delbert Hoseman, put together a voter ID law that the race of professional victims and Democrats can't reverse. They are howling, especially those in the Delta with Bennie Thompson, but their racist rants are falling upon deaf ears.

Actually, the states that are pushing to verify citizenship are not satisfied with voter ID, they say that voter ID is easily abused and is not sufficient to prove eligibility to vote. So they are pushing for a stronger requirement of proving citizenship.

And black is white, up is down, wet is dry, etc.

With some states allowing illegals to actually get drivers licenses, requiring not just proof of ID but proof of citizenship is a common-sense measure.

Our elections processes should take place at the highest levels of integrity. However, election integrity impedes socialist/liberal rise to power.

It’s better. Many illegals and non-citizens can get a drivers license and check a box to say they are citizens, but they can’t easily get a passport or birth certificate.

Plus there needs to be a box that says "I work and I pay taxes!"

It’s really amazing to me that the “right” to vote is nowhere discussed or specified in the Constitution, yet the Dem/libs will fight to the death to give every potential Dem/lib “voter” that right.

The 2nd Amendment spells out the right to own and bear arms and specifies that it shall NOT be infringed upon, yet the same Dem/libs that scream and howl when some sort of ID is required to prove eligibility to vote will scream and howl for required background checks, trigger locks, gun safes, fees, extensive training classes, special permits and any other thing they can conceive of to limit, eliminate, restrict or “infringe on” that right to keep and bear arms.

Funny init?
