The Titans of Mavericks competition is known for being difficult to watch in person, with surfers being as far out as a half-mile from the beach. This year, it is even tougher to watch near the water, due to the beach being closed to the public and no arranged festival for spectators. Thick morning fog did help much either.

Surfing the Maverick (Pacifica, California) is nature’s way of getting rid of the fools, stupids and arrogants...and any mixture thereof.

Mavericks is closer to Half Moon Bay than Pacifica.
Nope....
It’s at least in the same state.

:)
I stand corrected.
I think they're all nuts.
The ocean temperature is a coolish 48 degrees in the winter and a blazing 55 degrees in the summer. That is just too cold for anything but tootsies in the water.
I know--wetsuits. But the face gets frigid.
BRRRRRRR!!!
I guess it IS one of nature's culling methods.
