Misty Copeland is more than one of the greatest ballet dancers in the world, now sheâs quite literally a work of art.
In the stunning new series of photographs by NYC Dance Project, Copeland expertly re-creates a handful of Edgar Degasâs most famous ballet works. The series, originally published by Harperâs Bazaar, is released ahead of a Degas exhibit coming to the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Very cool! I like Degas.
Misty Copeland is so beautiful and talented. There is a great documentary currently running on NetFlix about her. If you love Ballet as much as I do, you will want to see it.
from Wiki:
Misty Danielle Copeland (born September 10, 1982) is an American ballet dancer for American Ballet Theatre (ABT), one of the three leading classical ballet companies in the United States. On June 30, 2015, Copeland became the first African American woman to be promoted to principal dancer in ABT’s 75-year history.
Copeland was considered a prodigy who rose to stardom despite not starting ballet until the age of 13. By age 15, her mother and ballet teachers, who were serving as her custodial guardians, fought a custody battle over her. Meanwhile, Copeland, who was already an award-winning dancer, was fielding professional offers. The 1998 legal issues involved filings for emancipation by Copeland and restraining orders by her mother. Both sides dropped legal proceedings, and Copeland moved home to begin studying under a new teacher who was a former ABT member.
...In March 2014, Copeland released a memoir, Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina (My Story of Adversity and Grace).
...Copeland lives with her fiance, attorney Olu Evans, on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The couple were introduced to each other around 2004 by Evans’ cousin, Taye Diggs.
Beautiful, and also really cool.
#2 in the photo series is from a Degas sculpture at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Mass. Went there last summer, and it is a truly fabulous museum, with works by Degas, Monet, Renoir, Remington, Sargent, Homer and a whole bunch of others. I highly recommend a visit there.
Really nice.
According to the Met site the wax model was found for the sculpture and copies were made from the model. There is one at the Met.
