Depends on the situation, but just hell no in this case, and according to the article she left the bastard.
When a woman strikes first you can lay hands on them but in general, you’re right. You can’t hit a woman, they don’t know how to fall, they just kind of crumple like a sack of potatoes. (paraphrasing Bill Burr).
A small disagreement from me: There is no excuse to lay an offensive hand on a woman. These days, many women feel free to beat up on men. Using a minimal amount of force to stop the incoming physical abuse is no vice, IMO.
Beating up your wife is just stupid, anyway. That's the woman you go to sleep with.
