The page has a graph of how Mexico’s prison population has grown like 5 times, from 70,000 to 250,000. It really shows why Mexico isn’t even a place I’d want to even step in anymore.
And yet politicians from both parties want to bring in people by the tens of millions from a culture of poverty, crime, ignorance, and squalor. I suppose they think that America doesn't have enough crime and poverty, and that we need to import more?
My first thought is how many Americans unjustly held in Mexican prisons were in that fire.
When I left active duty in 1984 and drove from Fort Lewis WA back to my home in Miami, FL, I stopped to see some friends in New Mexico. While there I did a day trip to the border town nearby to get some nice cowboy boots. I got a great pair for super cheap but in doing so, I felt tracked from my first moment "in-country" & I thank my use of Condition YELLOW for the fact that I wasn't attacked and robbed. I was always aware of my surroundings and I know that for an ambush to be successful the target must be unaware. I wasn't ever. I would have felt even better if I could have carried a firearm, but obviously that was verboten even in those days.
