Chinese police have fined a taxi driver for endangering other motorists on the road after a video emerged of him driving while steering with a spanner.
The cabbie lost his car's steering wheel after it broke off but instead of losing time and his fare to have it towed, decided to continue driving using the tool.
Reports said the amateur video, which has been set to dramatic music, was shot by a passenger who was in the vehicle when the steering wheel suddenly came loose and fell off.
The car was driving in Yinchuan, capital of north-west China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the driver was said to use the spanner to expertly manoeuvre his vehicle through the traffic.
Local police tracked down the cabbie and fined him 250 RMB, or £25, for dangerous driving and docked three points from his licence.
Authorities told him that he should have stopped his car immediately and called for a tow truck.
However, the cabbie said he wanted to save money and drive to the repair shop himself.

OK all you country boy will survive guys here is what to do if your steering wheel happens to fall off. Just add some duct tape and you are good!
A friend of mine did that on his 65 mustang when I was in high school.
LOL (& girls)
Looked more like Vice Grips.
I used to drive a 66 Dodge van when I was a teenager, and it was so rusted the gas pedal broke through the floor when I stepped on it. Being the stupid 17 year old I was, I clamped a pair of vise grips on the post to keep the base from going through the floor...:)
LOL, my dad sure didn’t know, because I am sure he would have said: “What are you going to do if the pedal breaks through and gets stuck in full open throttle?”
From the story, it sounded like he was using an ordinary wrench which would have been unsafe. From the picture, he’s using a vicegrip, which is the standard instrument for this task.
Appears to be perfectly safe.
Hehe, I once drove an MG Midget that had no seats in it, and I sat on a milk crate...I was restoring it, and had stripped it out of everything inside except the dashboard, and drove it to and from the place that was doing the painting for me!
Thats not even a ‘spanner’ (English name for crescent wrench)
I have done that before, and on the damned MG I was driving!
LOL, that was my first impression...I saw it and thought...”Huh. That’s not so bad...”
Every frikking guy has a bit of MacGyver in him!
I actually know a guy who used vise grips after the steering wheel fell off of his van. Hilarious
Seems legit...
They gots rednecks in China!.......who Knew??!?!?!?....................
All love sent to the country girls and gals who will survive and are our foundation. Women are the 200+ IQ geniuses at carrying and giving birth and taking care of children. Sing your song! I get it! Sing your angelic to God’s heavens.
With Vise Grips and Duct Tape you can fix anything!.......................
I saw a tractor pull in Chapel Hill, Tennessee where the steering wheel came off the tractor almost as soon as the guy took off from the starting line. Poor fellow had to stop pulling at that moment for obvious safety reason. He was one of the top contenders too.
