It’s been just over four months since Sean Penn met with the world’s most wanted drug lord, and things aren’t going as the actor had planned.
“My article has failed,†Penn told CBS’s Charlie Rose in an interview that will air on 60 Minutes this Sunday.
The Oscar winner was referring to the 10,000-plus word screed detailing his meeting this October with notorious Mexican cartel boss Joaquin “El Chapo†Guzman, and the events leading up to it. Rolling Stone published Penn’s article this past Saturday, following Guzman's capture six months after his Hollywoodesque escape from a maximum security prison this past July.
Penn had hoped that by interviewing the head of one of the world’s largest and deadliest drug cartels he could spark a meaningful dialogue about U.S. drug war policies. Instead, his interview is being credited with helping lead Mexican authorities to the evasive Guzman—a recognition the actor does not want.

Anyone want to bet the anti-gun Penn is now SURROUNDED by guns to protect him?
They thought they could have a little exotic weekend with a one of the nastiest, richest, meanest drug lords in the world and then head home to their luxury show-biz lifestyle and get invited to lots of cool parties where they could tell about their adventure and walk off scot free.
Maybe that might have worked out if the drug lord in question didn’t get arrested a couple days later.
As a result, they lost control of when and how the adventure ends.
Sean was always an avid gun collector and shooter, it was only in the last couple years with Charlize that requested they be taken away. Now that she is out of the picture you can bet he is surrounded.
Sean no guns for you!
With any luck, he’ll be the next guy with his face sewn to a soccer ball and kicked around.
No pity from me. He deserves what he gets.

Seriously? Shows how mental he is.
If it weren’t for Penn’s inflated ego, cue boat bailing pic, and his attempt to paint Guzman as a sympathetic figure -Guzman wouldn’t have been caught.

“Sorry Sean, we don’t have the budget for a small military force right now. Have you considered Virgin Galactic?”
Again I want to congratulate Sean Penn and the full staff of Rolling Stone for helping plan the capture of El Chapo.
I want somebody to ask Penn, on camera, if he knows of any mechanical device that could launch projectiles at those who might wish to harm him, and if he has anybody carrying such devices surrounding him these days.
Good observations there. Penn forgot that it’s never a good idea to mix up fantasy with reality.
