René Angélil, the husband of award-winning Canadian singer Celine Dion, died on Thursday at the age of 73 after a long battle with cancer, Dion announced.
"It's with profound sadness that we are announcing that René Angélil, 73, died this morning at his Las Vegas home after a courageous battle with cancer. The family wishes to mourn in private," her website said. "Other information will be provided in the next few days."
The Canadian entertainment manager, who discovered Dion, 47, when she was 12-years-old and drove her career to stardom, married her in 1994 at a lavish wedding in Montreal's Notre Dame Basilica.
The couple have three sons, René-Charles, 14, and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy.
His illness, first diagnosed in 1999, prompted Dion to put her career on hold in 2014, suspending her Las Vegas residency. Dion said Angélil supported her later return to the stage.

Sad indeed, they were a couple that were very much in love and had an enviable relationship.
May God comfort her in her loss.
He survived a long time but cancer is reluctant to leave and often returns when one thinks it’s left.

She is my favorite female vocalist. I remember she and I were both pregnant at the same time after having had difficulty conceiving. My husband and I saw her show when she was at Caeasers Palace. She save the best for last. “My heart will go on” never had it so good. Not a dry eye in the house.

Little known fact was Celine Dion’s grandmother was on the Titanic singing “My heart will go on...†which caused the helmsman to deliberately to steer into the iceberg. The passengers were grateful for the cold icy grip of death as they would never have to hear that song ever again : )
Yea think his battle with cancer started like 10 yrs ago.
