Truly impressive. Don’t seem to have that visibility in the Great lakes.

Amazing how it’s casting a shadow in that deep of water.

That shadow is created by sonar, not the sun.

The caption sez 3700 meters, iow, 2.299073 miles. Definitely want at least a jacket, it’s cold down there.

The writer just messed up a little -- turn of the 19th c is generally 1799 to 1800 (or 1800 to 1801, for those into nitpicking semantics) and clearly he or she is talking about 1899 to 1900 (or 1900 to 1901).

Looks like there have been plenty of responses, so this is all I’ll do. ;’)

Maybe it’s just an artifact of the sonar, but the wreck looks like it has fishing nets snagged on it.

:’) The shinier the wreck, the more robust the sonar return, hence, iron or steel. Nets *might* show up, but they’d be a sort of haziness in the return. Also, a wreck this deep wouldn’t snag nets. ;’)

Amazing how it's casting a shadow in that deep of water.

Sonar does not show shadows. But different textures give a different return on the scope.
