New Poll Shows Donald Trump Is a Real Threat to Hillary Clinton
US News & World Report ^ | 1-8-2016 | James Warren

Posted on 01/08/2016 1:30:18 PM PST by Citizen Zed

A new survey of likely voters might at least raise momentary dyspepsia for Democrats since it suggests why it wouldn't be a cakewalk.

The survey by Washington-based Mercury Analytics is a combination online questionnaire and "dial-test" of Trump's first big campaign ad among 916 self-proclaimed "likely voters" (this video shows the ad and the dial test results). It took place primarily Wednesday and Thursday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent.

Nearly 20 percent of likely Democratic voters say they'd cross sides and vote for Trump, while a small number, or 14 percent, of Republicans claim they'd vote for Clinton. When those groups were further broken down, a far higher percentage of the crossover Democrats contend they are "100 percent sure" of switching than the Republicans.

When the firmed showed respondents the Trump ad, and assessed their responses to each moment of it, it found "the primary messages of Trump's ad resonated more than Democratic elites would hope."

About 25 percent of Democrats "agree completely" that it raises some good point, with an additional 19 percent agreeing at least "somewhat."

Mercury CEO Ron Howard, a Democrat whose firm works for candidates in both parties and corporate clients, concedes, "We expected Trump's first campaign spot to strongly appeal to Republican Trump supporters, with little impact - or in fact negative impact - on Democratic or independent voters."

He continues, "The challenge to Hillary, if Trump is the nominee and pivots to the center in the general election as a problem-solving, independent-minded, successful 'get it done' businessman is that Democrats will no longer be able to count on his personality and outrageous sound bites to disqualify him in the voters' minds."

Trump's formidable challenges remain obvious and in no small measure reflect his general style.

Trump’s not picking FioRINO for VP. In case you haven’t picked up on it from the debates, he cannot stand her!
And I don’t blame him!!

Oh, how nice of the drive-bys to recognize that, six months after it became evident.

Why would he pick such an unappealing candidate as Fioria as a running mate?

Polls are jack shi!. It takes a real idiot to think that Trump would not kick Hillary’s butt. Iron hand Trump would destroy the communists empire that is gripping America now. The only real President is Trump.

What does US News & World Report mean by Trump is real threat to Hillary? If Hillary is demo nominee, which I don’t think she will be, Trump will win big it won’t be close.

I agree if they continue to release damaging information on Hillary and if the Bill Clinton Bill Cosby thing resonates with women look for the Dems to pull a Frank Lautenbug on Hillary

There are some articles that are being spread over the internet that the FBI is going to make sure that Lynch will bring charges against Hillary, and then the DNC is planning on running Biden/Warren ticket to take her place in a brokered convention....

Just saying what I’ve been reading....

The more Hillary sinks, the more likely she’ll be indicted or threatened indictment unless she withdraws.

She will become the face of Democrats during the election. Deceitful uncaring sociopath.

Think some of the Dems have learned their lesson by carrying Obama’s millstone about their necks.

Well, if you read it on the internet, it must be true.

Isn't that where you get your information from? Washington Post, New York Post, Hot Air, News and World Report, Newsweek, or do you just your news from Breitbart on their site?

I agree. She’s sinking like the Titanic. Lately the Bill sex thing, her physical and mental condition, and her possible criminality are all picking up steam.

If you had said you read those things in the online version of those reputable publications, that would be one thing, saying you read that on the internet is another thing altogether.

BTW, R. Emmett Tyrrell (of watergate and paul jones fame) has a new article up on The American Spectator. “The Bells Toll For Hillary” saying essentially the same thing as you’ve said. You might enjoy reading it. It’s in a “breaking new banner” and is dated today. But, it reads like a cut and paste from some other articles in some places. Not sure how much is original work.

There are TWO REASONS that Trump has the level of support that he has with Republicans:

1) His immigration policies are WAY AHEAD of the pack. Cruz is second, but he was still 6 months behind Trump in calling for large scale deportations.

2) Because of his immigration and trade policies, Trump can reach people that NO OTHER REPUBLICAN can reach (i.e., Independents and Reagan Democrats), as shown in this article and numerous other places. Cruz is locked-in with the conservative base and hasn’t shown any sign of moving beyond those people. The rest of the candidates will struggle to get conservatives (Carla, Ben) or drive them to a right into a Third Party (Jeb, Rubio, Christie).

Trump’s biggest problem, ironically, is locking down conservatives, who are turned off by his past. But picking someone like Cruz to run with will easily take care of that problem. For other candidates, they still won’t get the Reagan Democrats...and they also won’t do well with the base, no matter what they do.

I don’t know that Trump “looks down” at conservatives or that he is disgusted with the so-called conservative establishment like Rove, McCain, the consultants.
