Why did Kylo Ren turn evil?
Thatâs a central unanswered question of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Ren is the filmâs villain, a young acolyte of the late Darth Vader. (Spoiler alert: He is also the son of two of the filmâs famous characters, whose names Iâm going to reveal).

Right. The forgettable B-88.
He was growing powerful, and in that universe, you have to be an emotionally detached eunuch because they are afraid anything else will lead to a power-mad dictator.
And in that universe, nearly all the “dark side” end up as sterile / abstinent as the good Jedi barring Anakin creating life once.
The irony is that this is in direct opposition to human instinct - get power as the good or bad leader to attract (female) mates who want security, so you can have top pick of the mates and lots of quality offspring. Whether you’re the drug lord or the top cop, the impulse is the same. So somehow, the Jedi’s dark side is as sexually neutral as the good side.
The interesting lesson in this is akin to the “Protector” by Larry Niven - only the really aloof and almost alien without family obligations can be trusted to have and use great power, or else the animal instincts to breed and protect family take over.
You will not see any white males in future Star Wars as Jedi. This was PC overload.
He may have gone “dark” because he hated a good side that said he had to be abstinent while being a healthy and powerful young man.
The irony being aside from his grandfather, the Jedi and Sith were both overwhelmingly not breeding. Then again, that could be a reason to worship his grandfather - Force powerful AND girlfriend.
Agreed. Take away the special effects and nostalgia for the old characters and you have a shallow soap opera.
It was family movie fluff. That’s all it was supposed to be.
The whole movie suffered from a lack of masculinity.
That’ll come as a surprise to Harrison Ford.
I appreciated the way they were up-front in their commercials: This movie was for girls and black people - I guess they weren’t buying enough toys.
Even in their attempts to be politically correct, they fail: Those groups could never build something as cool as a Death Star or Star Destroyer.
Not a spoiler alert but the “death star” in this movie isn’t called a death star.
While you wait for that one to hit netflix... just think Disney is going to soooo exploit this franchise with what they are calling the Star Wars Anthology movies releasing a character movie each year in between the next two episodes. So we will have total of five new Star War movies each year for the next five years.
It was a good movie, just relaxed and enjoyed the ride. Fin seemed a little out of it and too chunky, but who cares. At least it was not Jar Jar Binks. I get tired though of these small women having such incredible strength! She was cute though! Lol.
Spoiler Alert: You will be very disappointed.
“Well that whole bit about the famous characters pretty much says it all, no?”
Yeah, I always thought Luke was a little too friendly with R2D2.
“Eeve? Walley?” (the soccer ball and R2D2) I felt like I was watching a supped up 77’Star Wars. The young villain looked like he was wearing a grill from a 1936 model car on his head. When they make the next one, Luke’s next part may not be as exciting as this one was.
Why? Because he had bad parents. The mom happily was a well paid sexy tart the last time we saw her and now bitches people wanted about 1/4 less of her on screen 32 years later, and dad apears to have hardly been around, possibly doing his best to stay away from mom.
No, it was a bad movie.
At least it was not Jar Jar Binks
Maz GCI what's her name was as bad as Jar Jar Binks.
This movie sucked in a hundred different ways.
“How many times must a Death Star blow up, before the Sith alter their plan?”
Like maybe make an EXPOSION-PROOF Death Star next time?
