because it’s the spotty service. Here in L.A. it’s like the wild west of phones, no contract phones are the norm. Works great in the city but if you are driving to Vegas, i dont want to risk it.

Because they can't be happy with a reasonable limit on their minutes. I like the pay-as-you-go simply because my cell phone is my servant, not my master. I don't take calls from unknown numbers, I finish most of my conversations in a minute or less and, most of the time (unless I am traveling), the phone stays in the car.

Plus I don't have to be connected all the time. If I am away from the house or office, my Kindle Fire will get me connected at the nearest Starbucks or McD's and a host of other places.

You get a much better screen on a tablet than any smart phone and it doesn't suck money out of your account every month.

But there are a lot of people who don't think like this. Their smart phone is their lifeline to the world and damn the cost!

I love my Tracfone because there is no contract. I only got it for emergency when I’m driving or to contact my brother for whom I do not have long distance service on my landline phone.

I really don’t need a phone that has maps, and all these fancy apps. Now! if anyone can find a smart phone that can cook and clean...perhaps I shall reconsider. =)

For now it is me and my Tracfone.
