Rating every [NFL] head coach's job security
ABC ^

Posted on 12/30/2015 9:03:50 AM PST by Perdogg

In the wake of the surprise firing of Chip Kelly in Philadelphia, we asked our NFL Nation reporters to analyze the job security of the 31 other NFL head coaches, with each getting a rating of 1 to 10 (1 means the coach's seat is ice cold; 10 means it's scorching hot). Here are the coaches, starting with the ones in the most trouble.

The Higher the number, the more likely the coach is in trouble.

No doubt Mike Pettine’s job has one foot on the banana peel, but the Browns have got to stop cycling in new head coaches — and give one guy a chance to build the program.

In the wake of the surprise firing of Chip Kelly

At least the writer admits in his opening line that he is not paying attention.

Kelly didn’t belong in the NFL with his clown show offense. That offense hurt the defense because they were always on the field. He also got rid of good players. Every thing he did made no sense. He steals DeMarco Murray from the Cowboys and doesn’t use him. I think he stole Murray just to stick it to the Cowboys.

I don’t need to see the list to know that Chuck Pagano here in Indianapolis is gone baby gone. Hope the GM Grigson gets the boot too.

Surprise? Most sports talk shows I've listened to had him as gone after the season.

This is one thing the Spread offenses in college don’t take into account. When you have a fast pace offense, your defense suffers. And guess what. Five-Star Defensive Lineman, are not intersted in playing for that team.

Take a look at the LSU vs. Texas Tech Bowl game last night. Tech was manhandled on the line of scrimmage, because all of their Def Lineman were little boys compared to LSU’s players. It might be fun to play for the offense, but defensively, it’s a nightmare.

Back in ‘08, Chris Berman interviewed both candidates - Obama wanted to see a college football playoff, while McCain had some sort of lame answer to what he wanted to see most in sports.

Strangely, Obama may accomplish the playoff AND every team going to a bowl.

I'm thinking Caldwell is a 10!

I don’t think Caldwell should be fired, but he’s certainly had the smell of death on him since everyone above and below was replaced. I’m not a fan of the revolving door style of head coach replacement that seems to prevail in programs that don’t quite get rebuilt after years of stinking.

And of course, the greener grass approach will prevail — fired coaches will be recruited into other programs, resulting in a big coaching swap meet at the end of the season.

Right now 18 teams are out, and only two that are currently outside looking in have any shot, if they win and get help (Colts and Steelers). The Colts lost their franchise QB and have done pretty well with his backup. The Cowboys have had, uh, mixed success with a very similar situation. Firing the head coaches should require more than losing a key player to injury.

Denver and Cincinnati by contrast are going to postseason without their big arms, and will probably struggle — what then?

Todd Bowles’ job is secure, now that the Jets have made an impact on the playoff race.

Why fire the coach with one game left? it’s not as if that one game will make a difference.

Lovie Smith fired after the Bucs are 26th in points allowed.

Losers on ESPN cry racism.

He’s a coordinator >>at best<<.

The only reason he’s had 2 HC-ing jobs to begin with is because of reverse racism, a.k.a. “The Rooney Rule”.
