The government of Somalia has issued a ban on Christmas and New Year's celebrations in the Muslim country, saying the festivities "have nothing to do with Islam."
"We warn against celebration of Christmas, which is only for Christians," Sheikh Mohamed Kheyrow, director of Somalia’s ministry of religion, said on state radio. "This is a matter of faith. The Christmas holiday and its drum beatings have nothing to with Islam."
He said the ministry has sent letters to the police, national security intelligence and officials in the capital Mogadishu instructing them to "prevent Christmas celebrations."
The announcement had echoes of Islamist militants al Shabaab, which controlled the capital Mogadishu until 2011. Among their edicts was to ban Christmas celebrations.

Christians represent about nine percent of Brunei's 430,000 population.
Businesses have been warned to take decorations down and authorities have stepped up spot checks across the capital. Hotels popular among Western tourists that once boasted dazzling lights and giant Christmas trees are now barren of festive decor.

It’s their loss. My convert Jewish sister still celebrates Christmas for all the positive aspects of the holiday. I think, deep down, she believes Jesus is the Messiah; just like my Catholic convert brother deep down accepts the reformation. Like my granddaughters say:”It’s complicated.”

What they all have in common is a determination to destroy the free agency of mankind and substitute some level of top-down control by those in power (I.e., by themselves). Religions and philosophies espousing free agency are the antithesis to their agenda of control, so they must be suppressed.

One of the funniest things I ever saw was a Somali parking lot attendant in an argument with a delivery man. He wouldn’t pay the parking ticket because he was making a delivery. The Somali guy started attacking the delivery guy with a fire extinguisher. Maybe he was protecting himself, not sure. I got out of there fast.
